Tim Strandberg

Tim Strandberg can play the piano with his shoes. Yes, Tim Strandberg can play the piano with his shoes. It's one of his many musical talents, one he honed as the opening act for Fats Domino. Once during a performance at Harrah's Club, Tim left a terrible mark on the grand piano that Fats Domino was about to play. The great rock-and-roll legend was not amused.

Fortunately for Tim, however, there weren't too many mishaps of this magnitude in a musical career that began with the junior-high school jazz band. He went on to win an award for the outstanding jazz student at the Reno Jazz Band competition and a music scholarship to the University of Nevada at Reno, where he began performing in casinos.

Tim toured with Jim Burgett and founded Topaz, a band that played the casinos at Lake Tahoe. Tired of travel and working the 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. casino entertainment shift, he returned to El Cerrito, where he joined Larry Lynch and the Mob.

Although he plays the saxophone and keyboard in the Mob, Tim is a diverse musician who also plays the flute and clarinet. Music unites the
generations of his family. His father sang and his parents both played the
piano. His daughters, aged 17 and 19, are also musicians. One plays the
piano and the other the guitar.
